The Process
I started the SEAMS Couture House because I love Designing, Sewing, Embroidery & Beading, and Fashion History. After a Career in New York making costumes and clothing for Major Film, TV, Broadway, and a Celebrity Clientele my years of expertise is At Your Service. SEAMS Custom Wedding and Formal Gowns can combine retro details with modern lines, think out of the box innovations with classic style, and Color! We happily customize any style or start from scratch to Design the Dress of your Dreams. Traditions are optional!
At SEAMS you’re not just a Dress Size, because each garment is Made-to-Measure and Custom Fit in a series of Personal Fittings.
Think Global, Shop Local! All SEAMS Gowns and Accessories are Handmade in our Workroom here in New England, and Never Outsourced to other Workrooms or Overseas!
The Process: We ask that you make an Appointment for a Consultation where we can go through all the Details and Design elements of your dress. It’s best to be as prepared as possible with all your inspirations as we schedule back to back appointments! Once we’ve taken your Measurements and a Deposit of 1/3 of the estimated cost of your dress, we begin your Muslin for your 1st Fitting. A Muslin Fitting takes about 1 hour and is your opportunity to try on a rough outline of your Gown and don’t cut into your fabric until the Muslin is perfect. Design changes can happen during a Muslin Fitting, and it’s your chance to make any detail alterations. Most Gowns take approximately 3 to 5 Fittings and can last about an hour. We always have you try it on one last time before you take the Gown with you, the Final Payment and Sales Tax are due at your Pick-up Appointment.
Depending on the details and fabric choices, we can come up with an Estimate of your cost. Most simple Bridesmaid Dresses start at $300., Wedding Gowns can range from $1500. to $5000., with many averaging around $2500. SEAMS respects your Budget, and we will work with you to make something in your price range.
Please Note that Custom Orders placed within 10 Weeks of the Due Date are subject to RUSH FEES! Some orders are simply impossible to complete in a rush time frame so it’s best to order as soon as you’re ready to start the process. *Because everything is Handmade, the busiest months of Wedding Season fill up fast and become ’Closed’ months ahead to any New Orders!
Vintage Gown Remaking and Alterations are estimated on the complexity of the Garment’s Construction. We recommend that you have your find Professionally Dry Cleaned first so that we can discover any permanent damage and work around it. We WILL do Alterations on Gowns purchased elsewhere, and the Rates begin at $400. and go up depending on the complexity and amount of work involved.
Cleaning & Preservation Services through the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists is now available at SEAMS. Museum Quality Restoration and Zero Carbon Cleaning at competitive rates. Just leave your Gown with us and we’ll do the rest!
How is SEAMS Green? We Recycle and Reuse everything possible, the Workroom and Showroom are lit with LED lights, Machinery not in use is unplugged and we do not use Industrial Machinery, and an estimated 1/2 of each Garment is Hand-Sewn! Our Packaging is Recycled Content and Re-useable. Gowns are delivered on Hangers made out of Recycled Muslin from our Workroom.
